History company

In 1999 PlusServer GmbH was founded by Thomas Strohe, Jochen Berger and Christoph Berger.

In early 2012, Oakley Capital acquired a 51% stake in the Group's hosting businesses. The remaining 49% were in the hands of Bellaxa AG, a company of the PlusServer founders. In July 2013 PlusServer AG took over the Dresden hosting provider internet24 GmbH , in 2014 the colocation specialist MESH GmbH from Düsseldorf and Mainlab GmbH from Frankfurt am Main.

At the end of 2014 PlusServer was taken over by the Host Europe Group . This combined all of its brands from the Managed Hosting division under the PlusServer brand. In April 2016 PlusServer integrated MCS Moorbek Computer Systeme GmbH from Hamburg and OpenIT GmbH from Düsseldorf. The latter specialized in IT security solutions. In December 2016, the US provider GoDaddy took over the Host Europe Group and with it PlusServer. A resale of the Managed Hosting division in the form of PlusServer GmbH was announced after the takeover.

In June 2017, PlusServer became independent again after a management buyout together with the investor BC Partners. The sale took place in a bidding competition. The company was valued at around 400 million euros.

In October 2017 PlusServer GmbH took over all shares in Nexinto GmbH from Hamburg.

History product policy

On the occasion of Internet World 2017, PlusServer announced that it would increasingly position itself as a cloud solution provider. A partnership with Microsoft Azure is now expanding the portfolio to include the resources of a so-called hyperscale cloud.

In June 2018 PlusServer GmbH announced its partnership with Amazon Web Services and in November 2018 with the Google Cloud Platform . This transformed the company into a multi-cloud service provider.

The multi-cloud platform plus.io has been the core element of the plusserver portfolio since spring 2020. It enables companies to connect the cloud to their existing IT and centrally manage all resources. In addition to various clouds, plus.io integrates the managed Kubernetes solution “pluscontainer”, special solutions for workloads such as SAP or web offers as well as security tools as additional modules .

In June 2020 PlusServer GmbH will announce that it will be one of the founding members of the European cloud initiative GAIA-X and one of the driving forces in the Sovereign Cloud Stack, an important technological component of GAIA-X.
