1998 Plymouth Pronto Spyder

The Plymouth Pronto was a retro-look concept car released by Plymouth in 1997. The concept was a five-door hatchback with 115 hp , but it was never mass-produced and later served as the inspiration for the Chrysler PT Cruiser .

With the Pronto, Plymouth aimed to appeal to a younger generation of buyers. This generation wanted a unique, fun car, according to Plymouth , whose design would not resemble any other automobile at the time. This was achieved by merging design elements that were modern at the time with retro styling. So is z. For example, the front with a large radiator grille and split bumper was taken from the similarly retro-styled Plymouth Prowler and integrated into the Sedan platform. The Pronto was also equipped with a foldable fabric roof. It was never produced in series, but served as inspiration for two other concept cars in the same style: the Plymouth Pronto Spyder and Plymouth Pronto Cruizer (both never in series production). Ultimately, the Pronto was instrumental in designing the PT Cruiser , which was instead produced and sold by Chrysler after the Plymouth brand ended in 2001
