The Pohlus boat ( proper spelling Pohlus Boot ) is a type of rowing boat built in the 1980s and 1990s with characteristic properties in terms of the boat hull and boom technology .

description

Pohlus boats were mainly built as a single , but also as a double scull. Characteristic features of the boats built by Pohlus can be found in the hull and the boom technology used. The - for a rowing boat - short hull made of glass fiber reinforced plastic is based on the shape of a racing kayak . Due to the short length of the boat, it could be stored in a normal garage and transported on a car roof. The short hull of a racing kayak could be used because the boat was equipped with a roll boom . This avoids the pounding around the transverse axis , which is common in roll seat boats . The boom made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic shown here on boat no. 91/30 was later modified and replaced by a bent aluminum square tube (boat no. 93/142). The rubber bow of the boat served to increase safety in the event of a collision.

The data for the one according to the company brochure are:

  • Length 5.20 m
  • Width 56 cm
  • Weight of the trunk 14 kg
  • Weight of the boom 4.5 kg

A conventional Renneiner, on the other hand, is around 8 m long, less than 40 cm wide and has a minimum weight of 14 kg including the boom.

distribution

The boats were built and sold by Pohlus Boot Rudersport GmbH in Herrsching-Breitbrunn am Ammersee . The shipyard no longer exists today. The price for a boat was 4960 DM in 1991.
