The Point Smellie is a small headland with steep cliffs in the west of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . On the Byers Peninsula , it extends from President Beaches into Osogovo Bay . The highest point is the Cerro Smellie at 46 m .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1978 after John Laidlaw Smellie (* 1953), geologist of the British Antarctic Survey , who was involved in the exploration of the area around the headland between 1975 and 1976.
