Poiretia delesserti is a predatory land snail from the family Spiraxidae , which isnativeto Greece and Albania andbelongs to the suborder of land snails (Stylommatophora).

features

The right-hand wound, spindle-shaped, very finely ribbed housing is about 3.4 to 3.8 cm long in the adult animal, reaches a diameter of about 1.3 to 1.5 cm and is thicker-walled than in other species of the genus. The case mouth is about 6.5 mm to 8 mm wide. The spindle is strongly curved at the base. The surface of the case is dirty light yellow.

Occurrence and distribution

Poiretia delesserti can be found both in forests and in scrubland ( macchia ). Their natural range extends from the island of Kerkyra and northern Epiros in northwest Greece to central Albania .

nutrition

Poiretia delesserti feeds on other shell snails of various species. Depending on the type of prey, it uses an acid secretion to etch holes in the shell that are characteristic of this species of predatory snail - as is the case with terrestrial snails - or it reaches the victim via the mouth of the shell .
