Polackenschanze

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The so-called Polackenschanze is located about 300 meters east of Sternberg Castle on the Schanzenberg, a foothill of the Dörenberg near Linderhofe, municipality of Extertal in the Lippe district . Remnants of the wall are still preserved today from the site, which is recorded as a ground monument.

description

The jump is an approx. 70 m × 45 m large, oval ring wall with a ditch. In 1909 the facility was archaeologically examined by Otto Weerth . Charcoal, two late medieval shards and a crossbow bolt were found. The hill was probably built by troops of the Archbishop of Cologne during the siege of Sternberg Castle during the Soest feud in 1447. At that time, Hussite mercenaries from Bohemia and Poland were also in the service of the archbishop .
