Pole Mokotowskie ("Mokotów Field"; also used in the plural Pola Mokotowskie - "Mokotów Fields") is an important park in Warsaw . The site has been named after the beginning of the 19th century. At that time it was used for military drill exercises and presentations. During the fighting during the military coup under Józef Piłsudski from May 12 to 15, 1926, Pole Mokotowskie was the scene of skirmishes between troops loyal to the government and Piłsudski units. Part of the complex is now also known as "Józef Piłsudski Park" because on May 17, 1935 the funeral ceremonies for the death of the Polish marshal took place here.

The park is located between the Mokotów district , which it closes off towards the north, and the inner city district ("Śródmieście"). In the west it borders on the district of Ochota . With an area of around 60 hectares, it is one of the largest, albeit younger, parks in Warsaw. Both a tram that runs along the "Aleja Niepodległości" (Independence Avenue), which now cuts through the park, and a Warsaw metro line have stops here.

Until the Second World War , today's park was part of an area of around 200 hectares, which was largely used by Mokotów Airport and the aircraft factories affiliated with the Technical University in Warsaw . A memorial stone today commemorates this time. In addition to allotment gardens, there was also the Pole Mokotowskie racecourse in the eastern part of the complex , which was replaced in 1939 by the opening of a more modern facility in Służewiec .

After the war, the new building of the Polish National Library was built in the area now designed as a park . A three-wing building for the main Polish statistical office was also built on the edge of the park . Various sports facilities have also been created near the park. Most of the park's trees were not planted until the 1940s and 1950s. In the 1970s the park was rearranged again. Today the park is a popular destination for local residents, because of the neighboring universities ( Szkoła Główna Handlowa and TU) it is also a place to stay for students. There are around 10 bars and restaurants in the park. Large events (culture, sport, entertainment) often take place in the park, especially in the summer months. In addition to the memorial stone for the former airport, there is a newer dog memorial ("Pomnik Szczęśliwego Psa") and in the extreme northeast corner a monument to the Polish cavalry. Because of the high-quality location close to the city center, the outskirts of the park are attractive for property developers. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of public disputes about the further development of the site.
