The Department for Special Operations of the Turkish Police or Özel Harekat Dairesi Başkanlığı is a special unit of the Turkish police in Ankara .

According to the website of the Turkish Police Directorate-General, the unit, which was founded in 1983, has the task of combating terrorism in rural and populated areas, neutralizing terrorists and arresting them. Further tasks are hostage rescue and personal protection of high-ranking personalities. Police tasks that require special equipment would also be performed by the group. The task force is divided into the directorate for special operations, which is subordinate to the subdivisions for training, personnel, support and operation planning as well as operation evaluation. Task forces (“Polis Özel Harekât Timleri”) are maintained in 48 provinces . In short, they are called Özel Tim ("special team").

In addition to its own police personnel, 8,928 members of the Uzbek special forces and 44 members of the special forces of the police of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have been trained. Courses were also held for police officers from Turkmenistan , the Palestinian Territories and Macedonia .

The special unit was established in 1982 and was part of the Public Order Bureau . The official name at that time was Özel Hareket Şube Müdürlüğü . In 1987 she was assigned to the counter-terrorism department of the Turkish police. The special forces have been an independent department since 1993.
