The pollen vanga ( Xenopirostris polleni ) is a passerine bird in the family of the Vanga stranglers (Vangidae). It is named after the Dutch naturalist François Pollen .
features
The pollen vanga is a compact, 24 cm tall and 61–65 g heavy bird with a thick, pale beak, a completely black head, the upper side including the tail and the legs are dark gray. The breast is pink in the female and black in the male. The narrow collar is even wider in the young bird.
behavior
Pollen vangas usually appear in mixed swarms of "mixed flocks" with other vangas, searching under bark, moss and leaves for food consisting of insects , larvae, worms and small mammals. Pollen vangas breed in the east between September and December.
distribution and habitat
The pollen vanga is endemic to Madagascar . It is found in the tropical and subtropical rainforest and mountain forest up to about 2000 m in the east and southeast of Madagascar.
