The Pollokshaws Burgh Hall is a community hall in the district Pollokshaws the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1998.

history

John Stirling-Maxwell donated the lands to the then independent Burgh Pollokshaws. The purpose was to set up a community hall. The building was built between 1895 and 1897 to a design by Scottish architect Robert Rowand Anderson . The total cost was believed to be around £ 20,000. Until the merger of Pollokshaws with the city of Glasgow, Stirling-Maxwell was responsible for the maintenance costs. In the late 1990s, the community hall was closed. In 2000 the Pollokshaws Burgh Hall Trust was founded , through which the building is repaired and operated.

The building stands on the eastern edge of the Pollok House estate , which Stirling-Maxwell lived in, in Pollokshaws south of Glasgow. It is designed in the style of Scottish Neo-Renaissance and takes up motifs from Glasgow College, which had recently been abandoned . The building has an L-shaped floor plan. Its masonry is embossed with polished details. The gables partly crown the windows. The final gables are designed as a stepped gable . A striking tower rises up on the north side. It closes with a curved hood. The roofs are covered with slate.
