Robert Rowand Anderson
Sir Robert Rowand Anderson (* 1834 in Forres ; † June 1, 1921 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish architect.
Anderson initially trained as a lawyer, later he trained with the Royal Engineers in construction and design and attended the architecture department of the School Board of Manufacturers. He worked with Pierre Cuypers in Holland and with George Gilbert Scott in London. After a brief partnership with David Bryce , he opened his own architectural office in Edinburgh in 1875, and later the architectural firm Rowand Anderson, Kininmonth and Paul. In 1916 he became the first president of the newly formed Scottish Institute of Architects and received the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects .
In 1892 Anderson and others founded the School of Applied Art in Edinburgh. From 1876 to 1883 he was an associate member of the Royal Scottish Academy , from 1896 an honorary member. In 1883 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh . In 1902 he was knighted as a Knight Bachelor .
Anderson's students include George Washington Browne and Robert Lorimer .
