Pollokshields Burgh Hall
The Pollokshields Burgh Hall is a community hall in the suburb of Pollokshields the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1993.
history
In 1887 John Stirling-Maxwell donated the lands of what is now Maxwell Park to Burgh Pollokshields, which was independent at the time . The purpose was to set up a community hall and community green. The design presented in 1890 was provided by the British architect Henry Edward Clifford . Construction began that same year and was completed in 1893. As a city engineer, Thomas Peter Miller Somers was responsible for the revision in 1935. In 1996 a non-profit association modernized the building. It can be rented as an event location.

The building stands on the eastern edge of Maxwell Park in the southern Pollokshield district of Glasgow. It is richly detailed in the Scottish Neo-Renaissance style. The red sandstone masonry is embossed . A tower house rises to the right . In front of it is a gatehouse with a richly ornamented gable. The central bay window shows parallels to Earl's Palace in the city of Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands .
