The Polska Partia Przyjaciół Piwa (Polish for Polish Party of Beer Friends , short: PPPP ) was a Polish political party that was founded in Opole in 1990 by the satirist Janusz Rewiński and was represented in the Polish Parliament from 1991 to 1993.

history

The founding of the party was brought into play by the editors of the no longer existing men's monthly magazine Pan . The original goal of PPPP was to promote culturally rich drinking beer (instead of vodka ) in English-style pubs and at the same time to fight alcoholism . The party was registered on December 28, 1990.

Extract from the election program of the PPPP:

“We are not mistaken that Poles can become abstainers. Just don't let him drink vodka. A tasty, cool, aromatic beer can also be used to bring out a toast […] With beer you can exchange views, with beer it is easier to communicate and come to an agreement. If we come to an agreement, let us be tolerant, understanding and with one another. "

The conspicuous name and the disappointment of the Polish population with the political development of their country after the fall of the Wall in Poland led to the fact that the party received a relatively high vote share of 3.3% in the parliamentary elections in 1991 (10th place out of 111 approved parties) which brought her 16 seats in the Polish Parliament ( Sejm ).

Shortly thereafter, the party split into two factions: Małe Piwo and Duże Piwo ( Small Beer and Large Beer ), contrary to Rewiński's explanation: “Beer is not dark, it is not light, it just tastes good.” Małe Piwo had 3 seats and formed the parliamentary group Spolegliwość in the Sejm for a few months and subsequently (after the departure of a member of the SLD ) the group of pensioners and pensioners "Hope" . Duże Piwo had 13 seats and appeared in the Sejm under the name Polish Economic Program ( PPG ). A few months after the formation of the Suchocka government , the PPG joined forces with the Liberal Democratic Congress ( KLD ) to create the Polish Liberal Program Parliamentarians Association .

The last chairman of the PPPP party was Leszek Bubel , under whose leadership it had to record a catastrophic drop in the vote share to 0.1% in the parliamentary elections in 1993, with the effect that the group ceased its political activity and, according to the new statute in 1997, also not registered again. The main reason for the poor performance was the candidacy of former PPPP MPs on other lists, mainly that of the KLD .
