Polygnot group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A number of Attic vase painters of the red-figure style from the third quarter of the fifth century BC are known as the Polygnot Group . B.C., which are closely related by great similarities in style.

The term was coined by John Beazley , who named the group after their most important artist, the vase painter Polygnot . A large number of the more than 675 known vases in this group cannot be assigned to any individual hand, yet they appear stylistically closely related. In addition to Polygnot, the Coghill painter and the Lykaon painter in the early period, then the Peleus painter and the Hector painter and, in the later period, the Christie painter and the Curti painter are among the main representatives of this group.
