Coimbra Polytechnic Institute

The Polytechnic Institute Coimbra ( Portuguese : Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra , IPC for short ) is a technical university in the Portuguese university city of Coimbra .

The IPC is one of a number of technical colleges in Portugal, all of which are state-run. The university was founded in 1979 as a result of the merger of existing and new higher schools, but teaching only began in 1988. The Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra offers Bachelor degrees for its subjects and today comprises around 10,000 students and around 700 professors.

The Coimbra Polytechnic Institute consists of six so-called schools ( escolas ):

  • Agricultural School Coimbra ( Escola Superior Agrária , ESA)
  • Coimbra School of Education ( Escola Superior de Educação , ESEC)
  • Technical and Economic School Oliveira do Hospital ( Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Oliveira do Hospital , ESTGOHM; headquarters in Oliveira do Hospital )
  • Health Science School Coimbra ( Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde , ESTSC)
  • Financial Institute Coimbra ( Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração , ISCAC)
  • Engineering Institute Coimbra ( Instituto Superior de Engenharia , ISEC)
