The Lisbon Polytechnic Institute ( Portuguese : Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa , IPL for short ) is a technical university in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

The IPL is one of a number of technical universities in Portugal, all of which are state-run. The university was founded in 1986 and has 14,540 students and 1,335 professors at its six schools and two institutes (as of 1st semester 2012).

schools

The Lisbon Polytechnic consists of six so-called schools ( escolas ):

  • the dance school Escola Superior de Dança (ESD)
  • the educational science school Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa (ESELx)
  • the Communication Science University Escola Superior de Comunicação Social (ESCS)
  • the Academy of Music Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML)
  • the theater and film school Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (ESTC)
  • the Health Science School Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa (ESTeSL)

There are also two other facilities:

  • the Finance Institute Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa (ISCAL)
  • the engineering institute Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL)
