Pompeo Massani

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pompeo Massani (born December 1850 in Florence , † August 25, 1920 ibid) was an Italian painter.

Massani studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, where he was a student a. a. by Michele Gordigiani . After completing his training, he went on trips and captured their impressions in pictures. From 1879 he also had exhibitions outside of Florence, for example in Rovigo and Genoa. In 1908 Massani took over the management of his former training center.

Massani was a painter of characters, genre scenes and portraits. His “skillful evocation of feelings and the careful representation of the individual”, which “produces warm and humorous images”, should be emphasized. The focus of his often small-format pictures are old men, sharing in the small joys in life, but not professional models.

His grave is in the Soffiano cemetery of the Florentine brotherhood Misericordia .
