Pomponius Bassus (Consul 271)
Pomponius Bassus [...] stus was a Roman politician and senator of the 3rd century AD.
From its prenomen only the Greek (...) β (...) is preserved. This was dissolved earlier as Tiberius, but the "β" can also stand for another name, e.g. B. for (Φλά) β (іος), (Φά) β (іος) or (Ούί) β (іος).
Pomponius' career as an official is handed down through a Greek inscription; afterwards he was proconsul , probably of the province of Africa or Asia (after 259), then comes Augusti , perhaps under Emperor Gallienus or Claudius Gothicus ; after that he was corrector totius Italiae (governor of all Italy), probably around 268/269. In the year 271 Pomponius held the ordinary consulate ; the consul Bassus of 259, however, cannot have been Pomponius Bassus himself, but at most a son of his.
The city prefecture is probably occupied Pomponius in 270 or 271, since one usually held this position during or shortly after the consulate. However , Pomponius is not listed in the otherwise reliable register of the city prefects of the chronograph from 354 .
Pomponius was promagister of the college of priests of the pontifices . His wife was Pomponia Gratidia.
