history

There used to be a wayside cross at the site of today's chapel. So that those praying there are protected from the weather, the then owner of the wayside cross Mathias Stampler, with the vulgar name Ponigl, decided to build the chapel. This was completed in 1860. However, it could not be consecrated until September 8, 1861, as the altar was not yet finished. In 1862 the chapel was enlarged by a bell tower. In 1867 she was awarded the then Bishop of Seckau, Johann Baptist Zwerger the measuring license . On April 29, 1868, the altar stone was consecrated in Rein Abbey and on May 12 of the same year it was brought in procession from the St. Bartholomew parish church to the Ponigl chapel. In 1913 the chapel was renovated and then consecrated again. Another renovation took place in 1952.
