Pont-Columbier in Veyrac

The Pont-Colombier (German bridge with pigeon house ) in Veyrac , a French commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the historic Limousin region , was built in the 17th century. The building has been classified as a Monument historique since 1973 .

description

The Pont- Colombier over the river Le Glanet is a rare structure that consists of a covered bridge with a pigeon house . Presumably it was built by the landlord of Veyrac, Jean de Londeix. The entrances on both sides of the bridge consist of two large round arches, above which there is a floor for the pigeon house. The water of the river flows through the basement of the rectangular structure through five arched openings. The bridge passage receives daylight through rectangular windows.

There was a second Pont-Columbier in the municipality of Veyrac , which has not survived .
