Pont Saint-Barthélémy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pont Saint-Barthélémy is an 18th century stone bridge that spans the Seine in the French city of Châtillon-sur-Seine .

The bridge is located east of the old town and leads to an island formed by the Seine. It spans the southern arm of the Seine. If you follow the Allée des Boulangers you come to the Pont des Boulangers , which goes over the northern arm.

The Pont Saint-Barthélémy was built in 1789 after the demolition of the small Pont des Grilles , the arches of which were too low to guarantee an unhindered flow of water. This small bridge, also known as the Pont du Recept , was built into the city wall in 1650 to replace a small lattice opening that could not withstand severe flooding.
