Johannes Notz
Johannes Notz (born September 14, 1802 in Oberstrass ; † May 20, 1862 in Zurich ) was a Swiss portrait and genre painter who also worked in England.
Life
After his initial apprenticeship as a painter in Zurich, Johannes Notz studied with Hans Jakob Oeri on April 29, 1822 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich .
After completing his studies, he worked in Aarau from September 1823 to October 1824 , then as a portrait painter in Basel until the summer of 1826 , and became a member of the Zurich Artists' Society. In February 1827 he came to London , then to Chichester and Southampton , where he also worked as a portrait painter. He visited Italy from September 1842 to July 1843 , where he became a member of the Swiss artists' colony there. In 1844 he left England and returned to Switzerland.
Johannes Notz designed the lidded cup for the Zürcher Archery Society, executed in Munich by Michael Wimmer (1805–1862).
