Ponte de Lima is a former municipality ( Freguesia ) and Vila (dt .:  small town ) with the seat of the Câmara municipal of the eponymous northern Portuguese district of Ponte de Lima in the Minho-Lima sub-region . 2884 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Arca and Ponte de Lima were merged to form the new municipality of Arca e Ponte de Lima .

The place is named after the Roman bridge of the same name over the Rio Lima . Ponte de Lima is Portugal's oldest community.
