Pontoon boat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pontoon boat is a boat construction that is equipped with at least two rows of floating bodies . These floats can be made of steel , aluminum or plastic (PE).

There are also pontoon boats with three and four rows. Pontoon boats are primarily used on inland waterways and are calmer in the water than conventional boats. Pontoon boats offer a level deck with maximum utilization of space.

Floats made of aluminum have the disadvantage that these metals react with the water under certain circumstances. This can happen especially in chemically polluted waters. As a result of this reaction, pitting occurs and fatigue fractures can occur. Only very high quality alloys counteract this and are accordingly costly.

Plastic floats do not suffer from these problems, they are resistant to most acids, oils and fuels. Manufacturers of pontoon boats with aluminum floats can be found primarily in the USA , pontoon boats with plastic floats have been manufactured in Germany since 2004 .

All kinds of structures can also be attached to pontoon boats. Pontoon boats have various uses: work boats, houseboats , leisure boats, fishing boats or party boats.
