history

The country estate of the Bremen merchant Poppe was built around 1770 in the late rococo style (rare in Bremen) in the baroque era . The living rooms were on the ground floor; a. a hall. Rococo elements are u. a. the door walls and window frames made of sandstone as well as the remarkable curved railing of the outside staircase.

The estate was once surrounded by a large English-style garden. The estate extended to today's Arsten motorway slip road. The garden and house were popular places to visit in the 19th century. Later the rear landscape park overgrown and only a sandstone sculpture should be preserved.

The Jakobi parish had owned the Poppesche Landgut since 1928 in order to build a branch church for Kattenturm. From 1949 the parish hall and kindergarten were here. In 1953 the St. Markus Congregation was founded, which next to it built the St. Markus Church until 1955 and sold the estate.
Today (2017) the restaurant and wine shop Poppes Landgut with red wine, pastors and garden rooms is located here .
