Poropanchax is a genus of luminous eye fish that occurs in West Africa from Senegal to Cameroon and the Central African Republic . The most common species, Poropanchax normani , also lives in the White Nile basin and in a relic population in Lake Bokou in Chad .

features

Poropanchax species have a more or less elongated body and become 2 to 5 cm long. Characteristic for the genus is a canal of the sensory system with two or three pores on the supraorbital (a bone above the eye socket) and a sensory canal with five pores on the preopercular . In young fish, the pores are open or only partially closed and close with increasing age. The dorsal, anal and ventral fins of the males are often longer than those of the females.
