Portal Tomb from Newmarket

The southeast-northwest oriented portal Tomb of Newmarket in the townland of Newmarket ( Irish Baile Roibín ), south of Hunter's Wood in Romansvalley is the northernmost of the halfway preserved portal Tombs in County Kilkenny in Ireland . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

It is located on a low oval hill about 10 m in diameter. Almost all of the stones in the back and the capstone are missing. Similar to the Portal Tomb from Taylorsgrange , only the two plate-like portal stones and the door stone, which are placed against each other, are preserved in County Dublin . The portal stones are about 2.3 m high, the door stone is 1.4 m high.

On the eastern slope of nearby Tory Hill in Farnoge is the only Court Tomb in Kilkenny.
