Portal Tomb by Tubbrid

The collapsed Tomb portal of Tubbrid is located about 20.0 m west of the River Pil, in a narrow valley, south of Grantstown in the townland of Tubbrid ( Irish Tiobraid ) in County Kilkenny in Ireland . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

The east-west oriented portal Tomb is located in the middle of the remains of a cairn about 10.0 m in diameter, on a slope. The 4.5 m long, 2.6 m wide and 1.4 m thick capstone has broken into two parts. Its east side is supported by a single 1.7 m high, comparatively delicate portal stone. The side stones and the end stone have fallen inwards and lie under the capstone.

Nearby is the ring fort of Barrabehy ( Irish Barr Beithe ).
