The portal of the house Zum Güldenen Kreuz is a listed portal in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in Magdeburg's old town at the address Breiter Weg 193 on the facade of the building facing south towards Leiterstrasse.

Architecture and history

The portal was created in 1745 as the entrance to the house at the address Breiter Weg 30, Zum Güldenen Kreuz . The late baroque portal system was an important part of the facade of the lavishly designed town house. The portal is flanked by herms and Ionic columns. There were originally figurines on the pillars. The model for the design was the Palais Knauth at Domplatz 4.

During the Second World War , the Zum Güldenen Kreuz building was destroyed. However, the portal was retained, recovered and later rebuilt at its current location.

In the local register of monuments , the portal is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 06338 .

Previous construction

The property at Breiter Weg 193 belonged to Heinrich Schaumberger and Schamberger in 1631, the year Magdeburg was destroyed . From 1640 his widow, from 1651 the secretary Andreas Gebhard. From 1652 it belonged to the barber Friedrich Horn, who was succeeded by his widow from 1667. The widow's heirs sold the property to the barber Thomas Christoph Korbach in 1679 at a price of 450 thalers. He died in 1693. His heirs sold the property in 1699 for 900 thalers to the wife of the barber Johann Dietrich Zandermann or Sandermann. She remained the owner until 1730. In 1803 and 1845 a Baumann is listed as the owner, in 1869 and 1876 Jonas Kühne. At least from 1803 onwards, the property was named as Breiter Weg 193/194 together with the neighboring area.

The property was built on at the end of the 19th century with a three-storey residential and commercial building with a seven-axis facade. At that time, the property was owned by the Jewish Blumenthal family. A woman is named Blumenthal for the first time in 1882. From 1898 the owner is Hugo Blumenthal, from 1938 together with Jenny Blumenthal. From 1940 the building belongs to the Blumenthal heirs. During the Second World War, the house suffered only minor damage, despite the severe damage in Magdeburg's old town. However, as part of the socialist redesign of Leiterstrasse, the house was demolished around 1975 and the property was later rebuilt and the portal moved here.
