The Metro Station Porte de Montreuil is an underground station of line 9 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier de Charonne in the 20th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the avenue de la Porte de Montreuil immediately east of its confluence with the avenue Davout.

Surname

The name gives the Porte de Montreuil, one of the 17 city ​​gates of the Thiers city fortifications built from 1840 to 1844 . The nearby village of Montreuil was founded in the 12th century. Its name comes from the Latin word monasterium (monastery).

History and description

The station went into operation on December 10, 1933 when the extension of line 9 from Richelieu - Drouot to there was opened. It has two central platforms on four tracks and is 105 m long. The cross-section is elliptical . In addition to the Porte de Charenton station on Line 8 , it has the widest vault of the “historic” metro with 22.5 m. The ceiling and the walls are tiled in white. A three-track turning and parking facility was built east of the station, as it was the eastern end of the line until 1937. On October 14th, line 9 was extended to Mairie de Montreuil , making Porte de Montreuil a through station. The outer tracks of the turning facility became the mainline tracks; the middle track connected in both directions kept its operating platform.

There are two entrances each on Avenue de la Porte de Montreuil and Boulevard Davout. Three of them are marked by Dervaux candelabra, the southern one on avenue de la Porte de Montreuil by a yellow M in a double circle. Since December 2012, there has been a tram stop on Boulevard Davout with the option of changing to line 3b .

vehicles

Line 9 is operated with conventional vehicles that run on steel rails. Initially, trains of the Sprague-Thomson type , which were last used there, ran. In 1983 the MF 67 series was launched . The MF 01 series has been increasingly used since October 2013, and the last MF 67 train ran on line 9 on December 14, 2016.
