The MF 01 is a vehicle type for the Paris Métro , which was delivered to the French state transport company RATP from 2006 to 2017 . These are five-part electric metro trains that operated on line 2 ( Porte Dauphine - Nation ) from 2008 to 2011, on line 5 ( Bobigny - Place d'Italie ) from 2011 to 2013 and between 2013 and 2017 of line 9 ( Pont de Sèvres - Mairie de Montreuil ) successively replaced the vehicles that had previously operated there. The "M" stands for matériel (roulant) (= rolling stock), "F" for fer (= iron; in contrast to "P" = pneu / tire) and the number for the year of the first order.

The MF 01 should replace the predecessor model MF 67 from the years 1967 to 1978 and thus contribute to a reduction of operating and maintenance costs. To replace the MF 67, which was still running on four lines in 2020, the successor type MF 19 has now been developed.

Conception

In January 2014, a type MF 01 train encountered a unit of the type MF 67 pending retirement at Voltaire station

In February 1998, the RATP published a Europe-wide invitation to tender for new underground railcar units, which were intended to replace the older MF-67 trains, which were around 30 years old at the time.

On July 12, 2001, after more than a year of negotiations with 34 companies participating in the tender, the contract for the development of a pre-series train and the delivery of 800 series cars in 161 train sets was awarded to a consortium of Alstom , Bombardier , Areva TA and Ansaldo STS France granted.

On February 9, 2011, the Syndicat des Transports d'Île-de-France (STIF) decided to procure new vehicles for line 9 by drawing an optional tranche for the contract concluded by the RATP for an upper limit of 330 million euros. According to the framework agreement, the delivery had to take place from May 2013 to August 2016, immediately following the delivery of the trains for line 5.

On December 11, 2013, STIF asked RATP to submit a draft for the acquisition of 12 additional units for lines 2, 5 and 9, with STIF supporting fifty percent of the investment. The order to the consortium of manufacturers was placed in October 2012 and provides for the delivery of two additional trains for line 2, two additional trains for line 5 and eight trains for line 9 between October 2016 and June 2017.

construction

For the first time in the history of the RATP, the order for the components of the metro trains was no longer awarded centrally to a company, but rather distributed over several tranches in accordance with the European specifications for tenders . The companies were responsible for the individual components as follows:

  • Areva TA: Security Systems
  • Bombardier : chassis, bogies , driver's cabs
  • Alstom : electrical equipment, drive, brakes and final assembly of the cars
  • Ansaldo STS : automatic drive, automatic door opening and closing
  • CETAM Automatismes: cabling, cable routing

The cars are connected to one another with bellows and thus enable free passage between the cars, which is not possible in the older Métro railcars. The seat arrangement has both transverse and longitudinal seats.

A special feature of the trains is the energy-saving drive technology, which can save up to 30 percent of electrical energy, as they are equipped with an electrical recuperation brake and, since the maximum speed of the metro lines does not exceed 70 km / h, the drive motors are dimensioned accordingly .

Unit 100 in the STIF / RATP color scheme at Billancourt station

The vehicles on lines 2 and 5 run in the RATP color scheme, with the upper and lower edge of the car body being white and the window strip backed with a large jade-green vertical stripe, while the trains used on line 9 have the different paintwork of the STIF / RATP in silver-gray , in which the area below the side windows is set off in white and the jade green only appears as an accent color in the area of the passenger doors and in the form of a narrow strip around the driver's cab window.

Installation

The MF 01-001 pre-series train, which was completed at the Alstom plant in Valenciennes and the Bombardier plant in Crespin , was presented to the press on June 17, 2005 in the presence of Anne-Marie Idrac , then President of the RATP. The train was delivered to the RATP in January 2006. In the course of 2006, test drives were undertaken on the network before 001 went into the public test phase on line 2 on January 22, 2007. Here it was initially used in manual operation, as partially automated driving requires additional specific certifications.

The delivery of the prototype and the series trains of the original order took place according to the following schedule:

  • 45 trains (001 to 045) for line 2 from January 2006 to May 2013
  • 50 trains (046 to 095) for line 5 from May 2010 to May 2013
  • 66 trains (096 to 161) for line 9 from May 2013 to October 2016

Immediately afterwards, between October 2016 and June 2017, the option drawn by STIF and RATP was delivered: Line 9 was the first to receive its eight additional trains (162 to 169) immediately following the delivery of the 66 trains of the original order , followed by the delivery of the additional units 170 and 171 for line 5 and 172 and 173 for line 2.

In June 2013, the pre-series train was sent back to the Valenciennes plant in order to match it to the other series MF trains in circulation 01 to adapt. After returning to the RATP network in August 2014, this train was repainted in the STIF / RATP color scheme in white, silver gray and jade green. Then he was assigned to the fleet of line 9. Line 2 later received two new vehicles to compensate.

The first series train 002 went into operation on May 6, 2008. Around nine years and two months later, unit 171, the last train of the MF series left on July 10, 2017 01 in passenger operation.
