from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Portland and Rumford Falls Railroad is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). It was founded on March 28, 1907. On April 1 of the same year, the company leased the Portland and Rumford Falls Railway and the Rumford Falls and Rangeley Lakes Railroad each for 1000 years to merge the routes of these two companies. The 150.6 kilometer total route led from Rumford Junction via Rumford Falls to Oquossoc and had a branch route from Canton to Livermore Falls (16.5 km).

The company operated the routes on its own account for only one month before it was leased on May 1, 1907 by the Maine Central Railroad for 999 years. In 1936 the Rumford Falls – Oquossoc line was closed. The railway company only merged with the Maine Central Railroad in September 1946. The Livermore Falls – Rumford section is now used by Pan Am Railways , and the rest of the route has also been closed.
