The porcelain factory Český porcelán, as, Dubí is a porcelain manufactory in Dubí (German Eichwald ), which specializes in the production of porcelain with the underglaze blue onion pattern decoration, which was originally developed in the royal Meissen porcelain manufactory and then by the bourgeois manufacture Teichert in Meißen was acquired. The company also owns the Royal Dux porcelain manufacturer in Duchcov , which mainly produces figural and decorative porcelain.

history

The company was founded in 1864 by the entrepreneur Anton Tschinkel, who first set up a manufacture for the manufacture of majolica in the Untere Waldmühle in today's Tovární Street, and after ten years also started producing porcelain. Due to the effects of the Gründerzeit crisis in the 1880s, however, the company went bankrupt in 1885. The porcelain factory was sold to the German company Meißner Ofen- und Porzellanfabrik (formerly C. Teichert) in Meißen . This introduced the production of onion pattern porcelain and operated under the name “Branch Eichwald der Meißener Ofen- und Porzellanfabrik” - specialty: Meissen onion pattern in all variations. Because of the difficulties caused by the customs border between the two locations (Eichwald in Austria-Hungary and Meißen in the German Empire ), the renowned company was sold in 1896 to the entrepreneur Bernhard Bloch (1836-1909), who renamed it "B. Bloch & Co. porcelain, majolica, oven and terracotta factories, Bohemia, Eichwald / Dubí ”and sold the Eichwald porcelain worldwide. From 1938 it was under Reich administration, was sold in 1942 and existed under the name Porzellanfabrik Dr. Against, Eichwald continues.

After the expropriation in 1945 under the administration of the Czech state (under the direction of Josef Šimek), it was nationalized in 1948. As a state enterprise, it belonged to various company groups until 1991 (e.g. United Ceramic Works Teplice, state enterprise Duchcov-Porzellan and from 1958 to the Karlsbader Porzellan concern). The general manager Vladimír Feix (* 1932) was in charge of the company for many years.

In 1991 the porcelain factory was privatized under the name Český porcelán akciová společnost Dubí (German Czech porcelain, Dubí joint stock company ). Porcelain with the onion pattern decor is still produced here under the brand name "Original - Bohemia - Onion pattern". In 2009 the merger took place with the porcelain manufacturer Royal Dux in Duchcov , which was founded in 1853 and has since been an important manufacturer of figural and decorative porcelain.

Onion pattern decor

The onion pattern was developed based on Far Eastern models from 1730. The inventor is the Meissen porcelain painter Johann David Kretzschmar (* 1697 in Wurzen; † 1765 in Meißen), who has been handed down through the painter's mark K for Johann David Kretzschmar. One of the oldest models was the blue and white porcelain of the early Ming period around 1420 with a stylized pomegranate , which the Europeans interpreted as an onion. It was one of the first decorations by the Meissen porcelain factory. Around 1740 it was taken over by various faience factories , but only by other porcelain factories around 1768.

The four best-known manufacturers in the world that produce the onion pattern decor (formerly Bürgerlich Meißen ) are:

  1. Brand "Blue Danube" Japan porcelain
  2. Onion pattern from the Meissen porcelain factory
  3. Onion pattern from Hutschenreuther Selb
  4. Onion pattern (also known as "porcelain with blue blood") by Český porcelán Dubí
