The Poschinger Weiher , also called Unterföhringer See , is located in the northern Isar floodplains and is part of the Isartal landscape protection area.
It has a water surface of 5.5 hectares and is up to 2.5 meters deep. On the western shore of the lake there are 5.5 hectares of lawns and a restaurant. In the lake there is a small bird protection island with an area of less than 0.1 hectare.
The Poschinger Weiher emerged as Stretch after the First World War by gravel mining for building the Mid-Isar Canal . A renaming to Unterföhringer See has never prevailed among the locals. Because the name was confused with the Feringasee , the municipality of Unterföhring officially renamed the lake to Poschinger Weiher again in early 2006.
The two Unterföhringer rubble mountains from the Second World War are close to the lake. The lower one rises between the lake and the Isar and is a popular destination for mountain bikers. The higher hill (also called "Hypoberg") lies north of the lake, is surrounded by two ponds and offers a view of Munich.
