The Feringasee is located around one kilometer east of Unterföhring in the municipality. It has a water surface of 32 hectares and is up to seven meters deep. There are 21 hectares of lawn for sunbathing around the lake.
Historical
In a document from 750 it is called Quidquid ad Feringas pertinebat (Latin for whatever belonged to Feringas ). The place names Oberföhring and Unterföhring go back to Feringa .

The lake was created as a quarry pond between 1974 and 1976 by removing gravel for the construction of the motorway . Unusually for a quarry pond, it has a drain with dust savers in the northwest, which, however, can fall dry depending on the current groundwater level. The lake was later expanded as a leisure facility with a surfing area, volleyball fields , beer garden , sandy beach and playgrounds. Up to 30,000 visitors come every day during the summer.
The Unterföhring water rescue service has been looking after the Feringasee since 1975 . The rescue station is manned by volunteer lifeguards on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between May 15 and September 15 . Outside of these times, the rescue station is only manned sporadically.
The southern third of the lake is the bathing zone, which is separated by a chain of buoys during the bathing season from May 15 to September 15, and there is an official nudist area on a peninsula , where up to 6000 nudists can be found on some weekends. To the north is the water sports zone, a windsurf club is located and fishing is practiced, swimming is not permitted there. There is a two-kilometer cycle and footpath around the lake.
In the northeast of the lake there is a year-round restaurant serving Bavarian specialties.
The Fischereiverein Fischwaid Munich has leased the lake and manages the water.
The name "Feringasee" takes up the not fully clarified Latin place name "feringa" (Föhring) from the first mention in a document of Duke Tassilos III. from 783 on, from which the current place names Oberföhring and Unterföhring are derived.

The lake is a project of the recreation area association .
In the summers of 2012 and 2013, the lake was infested with cercaria larvae. The larvae can cause cervical dermatitis .
Since the spring of 2016, the Unterföhring water rescue service has offered the opportunity to view the current water and air temperatures on its website.
Close to the Feringasee there is a former soda bridge (since 2018 green bridge ) over the A99 and the "second Feringasee".
