The Poseidon Basin is a roughly oval, 1 km long and 500 m wide depression on the Ingrid-Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located in the Vestfold Mountains , houses a previously unnamed lake and is surrounded by cliffs. It is part of a specially protected area in Antarctica (ASPA # 143).
The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it after Poseidon , the sea god from Greek mythology .
