Possidius von Calama (* around 370 , † around 437 ; exact dates of life are unknown) was a monk and bishop of Calama in Numidia and a student and companion of Augustine of Hippo and lived in his convent .

In Augustine's conflict against Donatism and Pelagianism , he stood by his teacher and confessor and after his death (430) wrote various treatises as well as a relatively incomplete and incorrect vita of Augustine of Hippo, which was only later supplemented by various historians. The biography of Augustine is similar in the style of the writings of his model Suetonius .

I lived with him (Augustine) in friendship for over 40 years. "
