Post Office Ismaninger Strasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ismaninger Strasse post office was a post office in Munich .

The post office opposite the former artist house Fleischer (today: Bundesfinanzhof ) at Ismaninger Strasse 142 was built in 1926–1927 by Robert Vorhoelzer . It consisted of two three-story buildings with hipped roofs, which were connected in the middle by a wall with an entrance to the post office behind it. In terms of style, the post office building paradigmatically corresponded to the conservative Heimatschutz architecture , as it shaped numerous post offices of the Bavarian Post Building School in rural regions. At the same time that this building was being built, Vorhoelzer built the modernist post office on Tegernseer Landstrasse, the first New Objectivity building in Munich. These two buildings are exemplary of the range of the Postbauschule's work between tradition and modernity.

In the 1960s, the interior of the "Post Office Munich 27" was modernized, but then largely restored to its original condition in 1990–1991. In addition, the post office was expanded to make it accessible for the disabled. In 2008 the facility was torn down and replaced by a new residential complex.
