The Regulation on data protection in the businesslike provision of postal services (PDSV) were all German postal service subject. It regulates the protection of personal data of those involved in postal traffic when collecting, processing and using this data by companies and persons who provide postal services on a business basis or participate in the provision of such services. Data on legal persons are treated as personal data.

Content of the regulation

  • insofar as this ordinance, the Postal Act or other special legal provisions do not contain any other provisions, the provisions of the Federal Data Protection Act apply .
  • Service providers may not make the provision of postal services dependent on the consent of the party involved in the processing or use of the data for purposes other than the provision and billing of the postal service.
  • Data of those involved that are stored by service providers may only be transmitted to third parties with their consent.
  • Service providers can require those involved in the postal service to identify themselves by presenting a valid identity card or passport or other official identification documents if this is necessary to ensure the proper execution of the postal service.
