Hans Stoll

Hans Stoll (born August 4, 1926 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † November 8, 2012 there ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Stoll grew up in Tübingen , where his father Heinrich Stoll had been professor for civil law and Roman law from 1927. After studying law in Tübingen and Freiburg , he passed his two state exams in 1948 and 1952 and received his doctorate in 1954 in Tübingen with Hans Dölle . In Tübingen he joined the Igel Academic Association of Tübingen . From 1955 he was a consultant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Tübingen. When he moved to Hamburg , Stoll also moved to Hamburg and in 1959 received his habilitation from Hans Dölle at the University of Hamburg . From 1960 he was a full professor at the University of Bonn , and in 1965 he was appointed professor for civil law , international private law and comparative law at the University of Freiburg. There he was director of the Institute for Foreign and International Private Law. His research focus was in the field of comparative civil law and in particular international property and damages law. In 1994 Stoll retired. An extensive commemorative publication was dedicated to him on his 75th birthday.
