The postal history of Kyrgyzstan began when Kyrgyzstan declared independence from the USSR in August 1991 .

Under the Soviet Union, the Kyrgyz SSR postal service was part of the Soviet system. The republic was regularly commemorated in stamp sets in honor of the various parts of the USSR. Kyrgyzstan has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since 1993 with its two postal operators "Kyrgyz Pochtasy" state company and Kyrgyz Express Post GmbH.

Kyrgyzstan issued its first postage stamp on February 4, 1992. The only motive for all values was a photo of the nature reserve Sary-Chelek in the province of Jalal-Abad. The name of the country was given in both Cyrillic and Latin letters, as is generally the case to this day - with a few exceptions.
In April and June 1993, various series of Russian postage stamps were calculated in ruble values, followed by the first postage stamps standardized on Tyiyn in August.
Some issues appeared as perforated stamps and, in addition, in smaller numbers as imperforate stamps .
Since 2014, the Kyrgyz Express Mail (KEP) has been issuing postage stamps with the approval of the Ministry of Transport and Communication of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. This year the KEP has issued two stamps: The first of November 18 concerns the 140th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union and postal traffic in Kyrgyzstan. The second issue of November 19th has the fauna of Kyrgyzstan as its motif .
