The post office in the Scottish town of Bridgend on the Hebridean island of Islay is a building that was built right on the banks of the River Sorn . The building is directly west of the A846 , which is the main road in Bridgend, next to the Sorn Bridge . On July 20, 1971, the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B as an ensemble together with the Bridgend Hotel . The building has been listed as a single monument in category C since 2006. The building now houses the post office and a supermarket.

description

The exact date of construction of the building is not known, so that only the beginning of the 19th century can be given as the period. However, since it is depicted in a painting from the early 1830s, it must be of an earlier date. The building was built from quarry stone in the traditional way on the sloping south bank of the Sorn. It is one-story, but has a developed basement, which is accessible from the river side at ground level. There are several entrances and lattice windows are built along the facades. To the west is a slightly lower stables. The south side of the building is plastered using the traditional Harling technique. It ends with a slate-covered gable roof .
