Pothohar (also Potwar ) is a plateau in the Pakistani province of Punjab . It is between 300 and 500 m above sea level. The Swaan River flows through the area of ​​the deferred small hills that date from the Ice Age.

The plateau rises between the rivers Indus and Jhelam , bordered to the north by the Hazarahügel and the south by the salt rock .

nature

The area is strongly characterized by erosion. The low-lying waters are not suitable for irrigation of the higher-lying agricultural areas, so that one is dependent on rain, which however only falls sparingly (~ 38–51 mm annually). The vegetation is more abundant near the Indus. The country's richest oil fields are also located on the plateau , including Khaur (discovered in 1915), Dhulian (1935) and the Tut field (1968).
