The Potholes Reservoir is part of the Columbia Basin Project . It is formed by the O'Sullivan Dam and is located in the central part of the US state of Washington . The reservoir is fed with water from Moses Lake , which is part of the Crab Creek catchment area .

There are several lakes in the area (typically 30… 65 m wide and 3… 9 m deep). These "pots" (English "potholes") were created through both natural and anthropogenic processes. The potholes were originally washed out by water currents from Lake Missoula during the Pleistocene . Later containment of the area by the Columbia Basin Project raised the water table high enough to fill these topographical depressions with water and create lakes.

The Potholes Reservoir is also known as:

  • Moses Lake
  • O'Sullivan Reservoir
  • Mardon
  • Mardon Resort

recreation

On the shores of the lake is Potholes State Park , a 640 acres (259 hectare) park in the Washington State Park System . It occupies 600 ft (approximately 200 m) of the bank of the reservoir.
