Potpourri Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The potpourri quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn . It was first performed on September 14, 1867 in Covent Garden , London .

Remarks

The five-part quadrille was created during a guest performance by the composer in London. Parts 1, 2 and 5 cite parts of the song quadrille (op. 275), while the fourth part is based on the chansonette quadrille (op. 259). Only the third part was really new. Here Johann Strauss processes three Scottish folk songs. The work was intended as a tribute to the British public. The original orchestral version is no longer available. In the CD recording mentioned below, instead of quotations from the Quadrilles op. 275 and 259, the respective original passage was played. Edward Peak arranged the third part on the basis of the piano reduction. The work was never performed in Vienna. Apparently it was forgotten after the London performances before it was taken out of the archives for the CD recording mentioned.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 37 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
