Powerspace was an American power pop band from Chicago , Illinois, founded in 2005 .

history

Powerspace first met in 2004, when guitarist Tom Schleiter, at that time still in the band Akron, and drummer Kevin Kane, who was engaged in another band, ran into each other at Miami University . Schleiter and a bass player named Daniel McMahon had known each other for some time from high school , where they had played together in various school bands and became best friends. McMahon decided to join Schleiter at Miami University. After Schleiter had spent the summer focusing on songwriting for a previously undefined new band, the bassist suggested they band together for a new group after McMahon's arrival at school that fall.

Schleiter, Kane and McMahon started writing the first songs and were looking for a singer to complete the band. The solution to their problem came on a trip home when Schleiter's mother said that a friend of theirs, Alec Cyganowski, was also going to Miami University and that he would like to audition for them. After Cyganowski sang on a demo recording of the guys, it was clear he would become the band's official singer.

With Cyganowski behind the microphone , Powerspace was complete and began playing concerts around Miami University and Cincinnati . In the summer they felt ready to record some songs in a recording studio . The result was the EP Housten, We Have a Party , which contained 5 songs.

This EP helped Powerspace get the attention of a major record company , Fueled By Ramen . In December 2006 they signed the record deal with this and immediately went over to the studios of Chicago's Dorisland over the winter to record their debut album called The Kicks of Passion .

The first single Right On, Right Now was released on May 15, 2007, the video was shot on October 5 and 7, 2007 in Chicago. The Kicks of Passion was released in the US on July 31, 2007.

Max Perenchio joined the band as a replacement for Tom Schleiter in mid-2008 when he graduated from college . Perenchio became a permanent member of Powerspace. On May 20th, 2008 bassist Daniel McMahon announced his exit from the band, Jake Serek took over for him.

At the beginning of August 2008 the band announced on their official Myspace that there will be a new EP in October. This should be rockier than the last album. A new album is planned for late 2008, early 2009. However, this was never released because the band split up in 2010, as drummer Kevin Kane announced in February of that year.
