The president of the legislative council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region , LegCo-President for short ( Chinese 中華人民共和國 香港特別行政區 立法 會 主席 / 中华人民共和国 香港特别行政区 立法 会 主席 , short 立法 會 主席 / 立法 会 主席 ) is the President of the Parliament of the Special Administrative Region Hong Kong .
To become LegCo President, one must be at least 40 years old and be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong SAR. From 1843 to 1993 the respective governor held the position. The current incumbent has been pro-Beijing-oriented legislative council member Andrew Leung of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) party since October 12, 2016 .
