Official seat
The official seat refers to a building or a building complex in which the head of state of a country or its sub-states resides. It is usually located separately from the actual seat of government and is mainly used for representative or protocol purposes. The official seat as such is limited to countries in which the head of state is a single and elected person, so it is ruled out for monarchies (i.e. Elizabeth II, for example, does not have an official seat, but a residence ). Furthermore, in Germany the seats of various heads of authorities are referred to as the official seat.
