The Praça da Apoteose ( Portuguese for: “ Apotheosis Square”) is an event site in Rio de Janeiro near the Morro da Mineira mine hill in Brazil and part of the Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí . It can accommodate 40,000 visitors and was designed by Oscar Niemeyer . The area is mainly used for concerts; internationally successful artists such as Eric Clapton , Carlos Santana , David Bowie , Jon Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones have performed here .
