The magnificent dwarf perch ( Manonichthys splendens , syn .: Pseudochromis splendens ) is a relatively large representative of the dwarf perch (Pseudochromidae) with a length of 13 centimeters .
Distribution and way of life
It occurs in the coral reefs of the Philippines , eastern Indonesia and on the northwest coast of Australia . It is particularly common with Flores . It lives in outer reefs , reef roofs and lagoons at depths of 20 to 40 meters, tightly bound to large, vase-shaped sponges , whose cavities it uses as hiding places and on the surface of which it looks for its food consisting of small crustaceans .
Aquarium keeping
In contrast to other dwarf perch, the magnificent dwarf perch is not bred for aquarium purposes. The few animals that come on the market are always caught in the wild . Magnificent dwarf perches should only be kept in large aquariums from 500 liters and always in pairs. The aquarium should have many hiding spots. It is not yet possible to keep large sponges like in natural habitats.
